challenge
UPS operates across the world, in hundreds of countries. There was no single design system that unified their various sites. In addition, customers often relied upon antiquated hardware and software to interface with UPS -- this system desperately needed to be phased out. The existing UPS site had long overgrown its limits and needed to be rearchitected from the ground up.

process
The design process used to develop UPS 3.0 was a blend of
new research techniques and workshop-based requirements gathering. Research for this project ranged from in-context interviews to shadowing shipping managers in addition to traditional prototype testing with end users. The design team worked hand in hand with testing to rapidly iterate new design concepts. |

solution
We developed a standard design framework for all UPS online properties. This system included a navigational framework, content organization, and a set of common modules that can be used throughout the sites to build online applications. The design framework is utilized by arms of the UPS organization across the globe in many languages.
